Seo-yeon Kim, who is in Ewha Womans University and majored in business management, won the Miss Korea pageant in 2014. She will participate many contest and do various things for a year as a representative beauty of Korea.
[History]
Miss Korea pageant is a contest that selects representative
beautiful woman of Korea, and intended for the women aged 18~24 who have Korean
nationality, get at least a high school diploma and didn’t experience birth.
First Miss Korea pageant was held on 1957.5.19 and hosted
by Han Kook Daily News. Although it had had many problems like accepting
bribery and forgery of academic background, it introduced computer grading and
made new crown starting form 1996, 40th pageant.
For participating the main tournament of Miss
Korea pageant, you should win within the third place, called Jin, Sun, Mi, by
entering local tryout held by each city or province. After local tryouts, total
about sixty people, including overseas Korean, participate in main tournament
with honor.
In
main tournament of Miss Korea, examiners select fifteen people primarily, select
seven prize winners secondarily by main evaluation and pick the first, second
and third place finally. Evaluation would be conducted by examiners who are
specialist of each part, and use computer grading system. The new Miss Korea will represent Korea at the Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss World, Miss Earth and Miss International Beauty competitions.
[Problem]
As knowing that selection standard have symbolized blue swimming suit, beauty standards have progressed that physical and appearance condition would be standardized. This has leaded to consequence that causes a sense of incompatibiliy to ordinary women. And feminine camps have started to raise problems in 1990s. As feeling sympathy socially about sexploitation and standardizing of woman body, people have not concerned about this contest gradually and it becomes a target of criticism.
